Michael Phelps' Wedding Looked Gorgeous

by Jordana Lipsitz

When the 2016 Olympics in August were still a few months away, Michael Phelps was busy preparing for something else pretty big — marriage. In June, Phelps got married to Nicole Johnson (now Phelps), with whom he has a child, Boomer. The funny thing about it? None of us knew. At the Olympics in Rio, Phelps even spoke to People and claimed the wedding hadn't happened yet saying, "she’s [Nicole] really good for me. I really can’t wait to get married. It will be a small destination wedding later this year. It’s the next big milestone I’m looking forward to.” Sneaky, sneaky — but now, the swimmer has revealed the truth, and photos of Phelps' wedding have finally been released.

Nicole, who changed her Instagram name to mrs.nicolephelps early morning on Sunday, Oct. 30, and her record-breaking man finally revealed photos that same day from their wedding, which secretly took place in Paradise Valley, Arizona on June 13. TMZ first broke the news on Oct. 28 that the couple had secretly married, and People confirmed it with a copy of the couple's marriage license. The ceremony was officiated by Phelps' agent and close friend, Peter Carlisle, who often posts adorable photos of Boomer and his newly married parents to his Instagram. But this time, he didn't add to the wedding photo queue... at least not yet.

On Sunday, though, Nicole shared a seemingly candid photo of she and her hubby holding hands and walking by the beach with the caption, "Truly the happiest day of my life @m_phelps00 thank you @boonestudios for capturing this day."

The swimmer, meanwhile, went a little more simple with his caption saying, "My best friend.... I love you!!"

The couple is a testament to working hard to make it work; they dated three times before Michael proposed in February 2015. Their son, Boomer was born in May 2016, and was the highlight of the Olympics as he and his mom sat in the bleachers cheering Michael on. A small, private wedding really seems like the right call for people with as much star power and love for their family as the Olympian and his new wife. Congrats to the happy couple — now get back to posting pictures of baby Boomer. We need them.
