Watch A Mom's Viral Reaction To Her Son Not Voting

Given the importance of this election, staying home from the polls is not an option this year. If you need a reminder as to why, just listen to this mom’s epic rant about the importance of voting. When son Kenny Okwara told his mother, ChiChi, that he wouldn’t vote this year, she wasn’t having any of it and gave him a furious (and hilarious) talking-to about his duty as an American to vote. Her message to folks who are thinking about not voting this year? “Don’t act like you’re a moron!” Yep, sounds about right.

In a video posted to Twitter on Saturday, Kenny talks about the election with his mom. ChiChi tells Kenny to take a photo of his ballot (Just FYI, kids, you probably should not do that, as “ballot selfies” may not be legal in your state). She’s a vocal Hillary Clinton supporter, and tells him that if he doesn’t vote for Clinton, “There’s going to be a little problem in this house. I’ll seize your phone, I’ll seize the car.” You can hear Kenny laughing uproariously in the background. (In a later tweet, Kenny clarified that his mother’s words “Ain't no intimidation.” She’s just really passionate about the election.)

When Kenny asks, “Isn’t there just a ‘no vote’ option?”, ChiChi fires back, “No, there’s no ‘no vote’ option! … You have to carry out your civic duties of being American. OK?” She adds, “Don’t act like a moron. This is the kind of thing you go out there and say, and people will look at you like you’re on drugs, like you’re a moron. OK? You’re not a moron, you’re not on drugs.”

Kenny told Bustle that he does actually intend to vote (and he supports Clinton, like his mom). "I know that my mom hates it when people talk about not voting so I wanted to show people how much voting means to her," he said.

The video has quickly gone viral, garnering 87,000 “likes” since Saturday. Kenny said that ChiChi was "extremely shocked" by the video's sudden popularity, telling Bustle, "The funny thing is she didn't even know I was recording her."

ChiChi’s message bears repeating: Don’t be a moron! GO VOTE on November 8.
