How To Use One Product For A Last-Minute Costume

by Rachel Nussbaum

Three-day Halloweens are hard on us all. Either you thought up three different costumes, in which case you are a superhero and hopefully went one night as such, or you re-wore one costume three nights in a row (guilty). It's dark. Spills may have been involved. There are no good options, but if you're looking for one last, minimal effort, makeup-based costume to drag the holiday to a close, I've got your answer.

Very simply, put on so much highlighter and tell people you're The Shining. A pun and a horror movie? It's a great costume. First step, put on all of the highlighter. Given the way 2016's launches have been going, you may own five, six, twelve, load them all on your face. Second step, no second step, you're done. Maybe wear black if you're feeling spooky. Show up. Bring a toy axe if you see one lying on the street, more likely in major metropolitan areas and college towns.

You might be wondering: Is there a best highlighter to use for this dumb costume? No. They're all good, anything that reflects light, highlighter's only purpose. Benefit's High Beam works if you bought it ten years ago and are still powering through it (guilty), Becca's Shimmering Skin Perfector Pressed works if you know quality, Becca's Shimmering Skin Perfector works under it if you watch a lot of YouTube, and Anastasia's Glow Kit was practically made for the purpose.

Becca's Shimmering Skin Perfector Pressed, $38, Sephora.com

Drugstore-wise, NYX Illuminator works, Revlon Photoready Skinlights Face Illuminator works, e.l.f. Baked Highlighter works.

e.l.f. Baked Highlighter, $3, Target.com

Truly anything. The only requisite is, go for it with a maniacal look that would do Jack proud.

That's you walking into a Monday night party. True to life!
