Could Kim K Stay Off Social Media Forever?

Kim Kardashian used to be extremely active on all forms of social media — but that came to an abrupt halt after the reality star was robbed at gunpoint in a Paris hotel on Oct. 3. This week, Kardashian briefly returned to social media with three Facebook posts, one of which featured a photo taken of her sometime in the past. (The presence of her Blackberry was apparently a giveaway that the pic was old.) She also posted links to her app/website to a Halloween costumes article and a video of herself and Kourtney Kardashian celebrating Halloween as kids. However, she apparently had second thoughts and the posts were deleted on Tuesday, which may leave her fans wondering if Kim Kardashian will stay off social media forever?

Many people were quick to victim blame Kardashian after the robbery, which is unacceptable regardless of whether or not you're a fan. So, it's not surprising that she's stayed off all forms of social media for the past month — dealing with negative, hateful comments is the last thing anyone needs after experiencing a traumatic event. However, Kardashian may stay off of social media, or at least scale back her presence dramatically, in order to keep her whereabouts at any given time private.

According to CNN, Paris police believe Kardashian's social media use made her a target. Johanna Primevert, chief spokeswoman for the Paris police department told the outlet: "It was really the celebrity who was targeted, with possessions that had been seen and noticed via social media, and it was these goods that the attackers targeted," adding that Parisian tourists shouldn't be fearful because of the Kardashian incident. And, as reported by People the reality star was reportedly "in shock and blaming herself" for the robbery because she frequently posted photos of the $4 million ring that was stolen. Although no one should have to avoid social media due to fear, it still seems like Kardashian made the right choice. The blame for the robbery belongs solely with the thieves themselves, but unfortunately she can't control that her wealth and fame make her a target for criminals.

Khloé Kardashian appeared on The Ellen DeGeneres Show last month and responded to DeGeneres' question about whether or not the family would "shut down" most of their social media sharing:

"Well, I think it’s just a wake up call to make a lot of life adjustments. But this is a really serious matter for Kim, I think, that’s really personal as to when... that emotional terror you could move on from that. I think for us it’s all a wake up call for all of us, but definitely just to make sure our sister is OK ... Like I said, we’re a family we’ll do this together. I think it is important to make those adjustments and to pull back a little bit, I think is always smart."

Social media is a significant part of the family's brand, so this is a life adjustment for them. Additionally, Khloé and other members of the family reportedly cancelled public appearances in the days following the robbery. At a recent event, People reported that Khloé and Kourtney brought a larger security team than usual and Kourtney reportedly skipped the main entrance altogether. Unsurprisingly, Kardashian herself has avoided public appearances and Kris Jenner recently told E! that her daughter is taking things one day at a time and making family her priority.

Kardashian hasn't deactivated her social media accounts, so perhaps she'll return when she's ready. I'm sure there will be major changes to how she approaches her social media use, but maybe she'll find a way to keep up with her fans while ensuring that her posts don't give away her whereabouts.
