Johnny Depp Joins The 'Fantastic Beasts' Sequel

by Jordana Lipsitz

I have so many questions right now. So. Many. Questions. According to Deadline, Johnny Depp will join the Fantastic Beast and Where to Find Them sequel and star alongside Eddie Redmayne. I'm most curious about what role Depp will play. Since Fantastic Beasts is a whole new part of the wizarding world that has never been seen before, fans have little to go on to make any real guesses. Whatever the case may be, it's going to be exciting to see Depp take on the role of a character who hangs out with Newt Scamander in this community of wizards and witches. I didn't know I had wished Depp into the Harry Potter universe until it actually came true.

Based on what fans know so far, there are a few options for the type of character that Depp could play. Maybe he'll be a wizard, which would be really fun to see, as wizards tend to be pretty quirky in J.K. Rowling's world. Or he could also be a "no-maj" with a good attitude. Unless he's a villain? Depp plays a dope lovable bad boy. Who could forget his murderous spree, coupled with his raspy yet warm singing voice in Sweeney Todd? Not this gal.

It will also be interesting to see if Depp plays an English character or an American. The movie will still take place in the U.S., but maybe Depp will play a visitor to the country or an expatriate. While the actor is originally from Kentucky, he has done a solid English accent in several films, including the above-mentioned Sweeney Todd and the Pirates of the Caribbean series.

Depp and Redmayne have never appeared in a film together before, but Depp's ex-wife, Amber Heard, starred in The Danish Girl alongside the English actor. I would have to guess that these two met at some point. Either way, the intense anticipation of seeing the sort of acting chemistry between Depp and Redmayne is so real.

If only wizards could help with the production of the film and make its debut come sooner. For now, fans will just have to settle with Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them on Nov. 17.
