Beyonce & The Dixie Chicks Are So Good To Fans

by Kristie Rohwedder

On Wednesday evening, something major happened (er, in addition to the Chicago Cubs winning the World Series for the first time in over 100 years, that is): Beyoncé and the Dixie Chicks performed “Daddy Lessons” at the CMAs and it was all things perfect and extraordinary and dazzling and life-changing. However, as much as I would like to watch this stirring live rendition over and over again, I know I cannot handle playing the video on repeat. For when that video is on, the rest of the world melts into an inconsequential blur; I simply cannot pay attention to anything else. If my eyeballs were two fish, this video would be an irresistibly sparkly two-pronged lure. (Yikes. Sorry about that disgusting picture I just painted, but a fitting metaphor is a fitting metaphor.) Thankfully, there is another option: Shortly after the four goddesses knocked the roof right off the 50th Country Music Awards, a studio recording of Beyoncé and the Dixie Chicks’ “Daddy Lessons” collab galloped onto the internet.

You mean to tell me I can fire up this new version of track number six off of Lemonade all the livelong day without totally derailing any and all productivity? Praise Bey. Don’t get me wrong, the studio recording is captivating and all, but I find it much easier to get work done/drive a car/walk to the mailbox/fold laundry when my eyes are not glued to a video. I can listen to Beyoncé Knowles-Carter, Natalie Maines, Emily Robison, and Martie Maguire belt it out together and harmonize together and be brilliant together as many times as my heart sees fit without worrying about whether or not I will get a single thing done today. And that is music to my eyeballs.

As the Dixie Chicks point out on their site, you can download the song for free. Yes, for free. What a gift to us all. And no, it isn't Christmas already. Bey and the Dixie Chicks are just that good to us.
