Kanye West Dramatically Cuts Concert Short

You know, there have been quite a few things I've given Kanye West side-eye over during the years, but despite his latest public fiasco being utterly disappointing for fans, I have to say, I'm firmly on his side this time. As Us Weekly reports, on Thursday night, Kanye West ended his concert early because his voice was "hoarse." I totally get being upset if you were a fan at the concert who was getting the inadvertent short end of the stick, but the rapper was actually super cool about it. Plus, his dramatic exit from the concert kind of makes up for the whole thing, anyway.

Before we get into his, what is sure to be, most iconic of grand exits (perhaps even more so than the mic drop), let's be fair and give Ye the floor. To his great credit, he did not minimize the fans' disappointment or take their presence at his concert and money spent for granted. According to Us, he told the audience, "Turn on the lights, show’s over. I’m so hoarse. I can't finish the show. I can’t let y’all have a show where I can’t perform for you. I’ll give everyone a refund. I’ll do better next time."

In the moment it no doubt sucked for those amped up to see him, but in retrospect, Yeezus was actually being incredibly considerate of them. If a football player hurt their knee, they would sit out the rest of the game. So, I honestly don't see how this is any different and we should probably give the guy a break on this one.

Anyway, that's honestly not the most important thing here. The important thing is what happened once he stopped talking and the floating stage very slowly retracted from the center of the arena:

In total, stoic seriousness, Kanye stood on stage in total silence staring at the audience as they stared back at him. All the while the stage moved away from the crowd at a snail's pace. The dude was literally trapped mid-air, awkwardly lingering over the entirety of the disgruntled mob he had just incited. I'd feel bad for Ye if I didn't think he totally loved the drama of the moment. The melodramatic, grandiose, prolonged impromptu finale is exactly the kind of spectacle West's brand was built on, and intentional or not, this is probably my favorite stunt yet. Say what you want about him, but the rapper knows how to entertain even when he's technically stopped entertaining.
