A 'Married With Children' Spin-Off Is In The Works

by Emily Lackey

Hang on to your bon-bons. A Married ... with Children spin-off is reportedly happening. Katey Sagal (aka Peg Bundy) confirmed this week that more than a reunion was in the works. Speaking exclusively with E! News, Sagal admitted that the cast was on board for an entire spin-off of the original show featuring Ed O’Neill, Christina Applegate, and David Faustino. In fact, this spin-off is one that Faustino has been in the process of developing. And that’s exciting news for fans of this hit show from the '80s-'90s. But what I really want to know is what will the Bundy kids be like today?

I think it’s safe to assume that Peg and Al will be up to mostly the same thing. When the spin-off happens (now that fans can say “when” and not “if”), I’m sure Al will be on the couch with his hand tucked into his pants, and Peg fighting him for the remote to watch — well, it would have to be someone other than Oprah. Maybe Ellen DeGeneres? Those Bundys are likely in the exact same place they were in the last time viewers saw them, but it’s the Bundy kids that I’m most curious about. With their entire futures ahead of them the last time they were on-screen, these two could be up to big things these days.

Especially Bud. As the smartest Bundy in the house by far, Bud was one of the first in his family to attend college. With that in mind, I wouldn’t be surprised if he were running the show at some major startup or tech company, coming home occasionally to flash his wealth and his attractive string of women. Oh, because that’s the other thing: Even though Bud was notorious for striking out with the ladies throughout the show’s history, I have a feeling that he’s doing just fine with them these days.

As for Kelly, Applegate has an idea for where she thinks her former character would be: “Kelly Bundy probably has like 10 kids. I’m sure of it,” Applegate said at the premiere of her film Vacation in 2015. And I bet she’s not that far off. Popping out a bunch of kids and living similarly to her mother is where I imagine Kelly would be these days — albeit with a little less self-awareness than her mother had.

No matter what Faustino has in store for these classic characters, I’m just happy to hear that the entire cast is on board. Now let’s all cross our fingers, tease our hair, and hope that this spin-off makes it through pilot season.
