Brad Pitt Reportedly Wants Joint Custody

Following the couple's divorce announcement in September, Brad Pitt reportedly filed for joint custody of his and Angelina Jolie's children on Friday, Nov. 4, People confirmed. The pair has six kids together, with ages ranging from 8 to 15. Bustle has reached out to reps for both Pitt and Jolie for comment, but has not heard back at this time. According to People, Pitt is asking for "joint physical and joint legal custody of the children."

If you've been following this whole saga, you may recall that Jolie initially asked for sole custody of the kids. Then at the end of September, TMZ reported that Jolie and Pitt reached a temporary custody deal, in which Jolie received physical custody and Pitt got visitation rights. If granted his recent request for joint custody, he would likely get far more time with Maddox, Pax, Zahara, Shiloh, Knox, and Vivienne. In early October, Pitt reportedly reunited with some of his kids for the first time since the divorce was filed.

Ever since the news broke, their divorce has certainly been a topic of conversation. According to TMZ, Jolie filed for divorce after an alleged incident that took place while the family was on an airplane. While reports claimed that Pitt was intoxicated and became physically and verbally abusive toward his children, specifically Maddox, a source close to the actor denied any abuse occurred in an interview with People. Meanwhile, Us Weekly reported last week that Jolie spoke to the FBI for four hours regarding the plane incident.

When their divorce was first announced, Pitt released the following statement to People :

I am very saddened by this, but what matters most now is the well being of our kids. I kindly ask the press to give them the space they deserve during this challenging time.

Meanwhile, Jolie's attorney told People,

Angelina Jolie Pitt has filed for dissolution of the marriage. This decision was made for the health of the family. She will not be commenting at this time, and asks that the family be given their privacy during this difficult time.

The FBI previously told Bustle in a statement, "In response to your inquiry regarding allegations within the special aircraft jurisdiction of the United States; specifically, an aircraft carrying Mr. Brad Pitt and his children, the FBI is continuing to gather facts and will evaluate whether an investigation at the federal level will be pursued."

What exactly happened with the couple — and what will happen from here — remains unclear, but one thing is certain: It sounds like a heartbreaking situation for the whole family.
