California Quake Strikes Twitter, Too

California is no stranger to ground-shakers, but the 5.1 earthquake that hit Los Angeles Friday night rattled residents nonetheless. The quake, which was reportedly ten times stronger than the earthquake that struck the city earlier this month, centered at La Habra, although it was felt across the region. It caused nearly 2,000 Edison customers to experience power outages, and 50 people were forced to move because of housing damage. By Saturday morning, over 800 homes and businesses close to where the temblor struck were still without power.

The quake struck at roughly 9 p.m. local time, and since then, there have been roughly 30 aftershocks — two of those aftershocks had a magnitude over 3.0. And it might not be over yet: according to U.S. Geological Survey seismologist Lucy Jones, "there could be even a larger earthquake in the next few hours or the next few days."

No injuries have thus far been reported, but pictures of the damages have been circling on social media. From the wine bottles sadly shattered at Trader Joe's, to plates all over the floors of restaurants, diligent Tweeters have reported it all, with #earthquake trending on Twitter.
