Michelle Obama On Running For President

It's a bird, it's a plane, it's ... the tiniest shred of silver lining that we are squinting at so hard that our eyeballs might fall out of our heads! Michelle Obama made remarks on Nov. 14 at the Veterans' Homelessness Conference hosted at the White House, but was immediately cut off by an audience member yelling, "Run for president!" Michelle Obama's response to the idea of running for president wasn't exactly a yes, but she didn't NOT say she would run. So maybe we can hinge all of our 2016 dreams for a better world to the 2020 ones instead?

Here's the exact transcript of the interaction, from the White House press office:

MRS. OBAMA: Thank you all so much. (Applause.) You all, please, please. Thanks so much. Welcome.

AUDIENCE MEMBER: Run for President! (Laughter.)

MRS. OBAMA: Be quiet back there. (Laughter.)

This is, of course, hardly the first time anyone has floated the idea of FLOTUS running for POTUS. Many people have been calling for her to consider the idea of running, even before this election reached its Horrific Conclusion (my nickname for President-elect Donald Trump). She has undoubtedly been a unifying force, is an incredibly powerful and motivating speaker, and has a 64 percent approval rating that makes actual U.S. presidents look like amateurs.

SEE? DEFINITELY NOT A NO, EVERYONE!

To be fair, Michelle Obama did say at South by Southwest in Austin in March, "I will not run for president. No, nope, not going to do it," citing that it was difficult enough for her young daughters to have been daughters of a president for eight years, let alone four to eight more. And as totally justifiable that reason is, it was also a very, very different world then. In the wake of an unexpected Trump victory, a Republican majority in the House and the Senate, and Trump appointing actual nightmares into the Cabinet, America needs all the hope it can get.

So yes, we have already asked a lot from Michelle Obama and the Obama fam as a country. They gave us an amazing eight years, which, quite frankly, is more than a lot of us deserved (looking at you, anybody who voted for Trump). But might we ask for just one more go round?

Sorry, Michelle — I didn't mean to "If You Give A Mouse A Cookie" the Obama occupancy in the White House. But you'd be so baller at it that it was definitely worth a shot.
