Anthony Weiner Updates Suggest He Won't Be Happy

by Joseph D. Lyons

Years ago, when an inappropriate photo of Anthony Weiner was first shared with the world via Twitter, who would have thought that his sexting scandal would have such a long run of it. He had to leave Congress shortly thereafter, but it wasn't long before he was back on the trail, seeking to become mayor of New York, that his pesky sex addiction popped up again. Weiner stayed out of the limelight since then, trying to let his wife Huma Abedin help elect the first woman president. We all know how that worked out. This Anthony Weiner update shows that, as bad as the election results may be for all of us, they're probably worse for him.

Given the number of times his sex addiction has made the news, it's important to hone in on this one. This time, when The New York Post reported that Weiner had not given up sexting other women, it was worse. His son appeared in some of the photos that he shared. That and perhaps other things led Abedin to announce she was separating from him, amid rumors they had been estranged for a year while she was out on the campaign trail. "After long and painful consideration and work on my marriage, I have made the decision to separate from my husband," Abedin said in a statement at the time. But it gets worse.

The FBI said in September that they were investigating Weiner's alleged contact with a 15-year-old girl. The two had allegedly sexted and Skyped earlier in 2016. Weiner claimed he was the "subject of a hoax." Whatever the case may be, this led to an FBI investigation, which in turn provided a new batch of Clinton emails to enter the arguments surrounding the race. One of the computers that was taken in the investigation had some of Abedin's emails with Clinton on it. That led FBI Director James Comey to write those letters which may have ultimately cost Clinton the election.

So while all those things are bad generally, particularly the election results following the FBI announcement — Weiner has to live with being at the center of it all. You could argue that he helped elect Donald Trump, a guy whom Weiner called "F*ckface Von Clownstick" on Twitter. Add to that the implosion of his family life, and it's pretty bad.

The absolute latest on Weiner came before the election results were in. The Daily Mail ran a story claiming that Weiner had checked himself into a treatment center for his sexting addiction. The facility is known to have counseling for addiction to cybersex, exhibitionism, anonymous sex, and porn, The Daily Mail reported. When he gets out — if he hasn't yet — he will be coming into a world in which Trump is president-elect. That might be hard to reconcile for us, but surely will be even more rough for Weiner.
