Here's Why Kanye Is So Mad At Beyoncé & Jay Z

by Nicole Pomarico

It's hard for me to imagine feeling any kind of emotion toward Beyoncé except for complete and total love and devotion, but apparently, it's possible to be mad at her... and her husband. Don't believe me? Just ask Kanye West, who seems to have a serious bone to pick with the couple. On Saturday, West went on a rant about Beyoncé and Jay Z before storming off stage mid-concert, and although there's no confirmation on whether or not it's related, the rest of his tour has since been canceled, too. If you're as confused as I am by this, you're probably also wondering why West is mad at Jay Z and Beyoncé. The answer? It's a bit complicated.

And if you're thinking, "wait, weren't these people friends to the point that West felt compelled to get up on the VMA stage and defend Beyoncé's video that time he interrupted Taylor Swift?" you aren't alone, because that's what I'm thinking, too. Apparently, things have changed since 2009, although it sounds like the VMAs are still getting under West's skin. But before we can get into that, we have to go back to last month, because that's when this whole feud really began.

In October, West called Jay Z out in a major way while performing in Seattle. First, he accused him of not calling or coming by to check on Kim Kardashian after her robbery, and then added that Blue Ivy has never had a playdate with his kids. It's fine, West — I'm pretty mad about that, too. And it wasn't just personal family stuff that bothered him either; he also mentioned that there were some issues involving money and Jay Z's streaming service, Tidal. Sound messy? It's about to get worse, because now Beyoncé is officially involved. In Saturday night's rant, West called out the Lemonade singer over the 2016 VMAs, according to Us Weekly:

"Beyoncé, I was hurt. I went down seven years on behalf of you … I am putting my career, my life, my public standing at risk when I talk to y’all like this. This is a moment in the matrix, bro. … Beyoncé, I was hurt because I hear that you said you wouldn’t perform unless you won Video of the Year over me and over ‘Hotline Bling.’ In my opinion … now don’t go dissing Beyoncé, she’s great. Taylor Swift is great. We are all great people. We are all equal. But sometimes we be playing the politics too much and forget who we are just to win.”

In the end, Beyoncé did win and she did perform, and even though the awards were in August, he's obviously still pretty heated about it. And if everything he's saying is true, it's hard to blame him. Being that it seemed like West was so close with them, it is heartbreaking to hear that they may not have been there for him when his family went through a difficult time, especially since once upon a time, he jeopardized his career to stand up for Beyoncé and her talent, as awkward and misguided as it might have been. Bustle has reached out to Beyoncé and Jay Z's reps but did not hear back at the time of publication.

Since Bey and Jay aren't exactly the kind of celebrities who jump on social media to instantly clear up rumors, it's not surprising at all that they have yet to confirm or deny West's statements about them, and there's a good chance they never will. Maybe the best way to bury the hatchet would be a group outing to Disneyland with North, Blue, and Saint in tow? Even if it didn't end in a lifelong friendship, it would result in some gorgeous photos.
