Why Would Kanye Cancel His Tour?

by Daniela Cabrera

Well, after a few days of headlines, cancelled shows, and public rants, Kanye West cancelled the remainder of his Saint Pablo Tour, leaving many fans shocked and disappointed by the news. While it seemed that something was up considering he walked out of his Saturday show in Sacramento and had already canceled his Sunday show in LA, I didn't imagine that he would cancel all of his remaining tour dates, so that leaves me wondering: Why did West cancel his remaining Saint Pablo Tour dates?

LiveNation released the following statement regarding the Saint Pablo Tour on Monday: "The remaining dates on the SAINT PABLO TOUR have been cancelled. Tickets will be fully refunded at point of purchase." The organization gave no comment as to why West canceled his tour and a rep for West's label did not return Bustle's request for comment at the time of publication.

A source who spoke with Us Weekly did make a claim, though, as to why West might cancel his tour:

"He's just exhausted. He's been working around the clock on fashion design, both his own line and the Adidas line. He's a notorious workaholic ... so balancing both that work — which is extremely important to him — and the rigors of the tour every night, it really wore him out. All the time spent away from his family has been a stress on him, as well. They are the most important to him."

A source at X17, painted a more dire picture as compared to the Us Weekly source, and claimed,

"[Kanye] is screaming at everybody — it's like he wants to make it everyone else's fault that he's having a breakdown... He can't hack it anymore. He just doesn't want to do it. At least he's threatening not to do it. He's telling his people right now that he's finished and that his managers and agents and everyone else needs to figure it out."

In the past couple of months, West's shows have already seen some ups and downs. Kim Kardashian's robbery in early October led him to stop the show that was in progress during at that time, and back in early November, West cut his original Forum concert in L.A. short after having vocal issues, and told his audience, “I can’t let you have a show where I can’t perform for you... I’ll give everyone a refund, I’ll do better next time.” This show was the one that was rescheduled to Sunday, which has now be canceled.

In the past week, West went on a rant about supporting Donald Trump and about his (former?) BFFs Jay Z and Beyoncé during concerts. West's U.S. Saint Pablo Tour was scheduled to go until New Year's Eve at Barclays Center in Brooklyn and the previously announced 2017 European leg of the tour is still currently scheduled to go on.

If it's true that West is overworked, it makes sense that he would step away for a while to focus on his well-being. It sounds like he really wants to do better for his fans, but it might just take a bit longer than expected.
