'Fast & Furious 7' Speeds Back Toward Box Office

by Kadeen Griffiths

Production on the seventh installment in the Fast & Furious franchise came to a screeching halt months ago with the death of Paul Walker. Walker's character, Brian O'Conner, was one of the three lead protagonists of the film and the tragedy made it kind of hard to continue the movie without him for more reasons than one. Although there were concerns for a while that the film might be scrapped entirely due to the sheer impossibility of writing Walker's character out at this point, it was eventually speculated that body doubles and CGI would be used to complete Walker's scenes as filmed. Now, it has finally been confirmed that Fast and Furious 7 is definitely back on after their four month hiatus.

Director James Wan posted a picture from set with the tag, "First day back filming. Better and stronger." According to The Hollywood Reporter, Walker's character will be retired rather than killed off in the upcoming film, to allow for more movies to be made in the franchise without giving us all a painful reminder of Walker's fate.

The film is due out in theaters in April 2015 and the storyline was supposed to follow Walker, Vin Diesel, and Dwayne Johnson as they go up against Jason Statham and the danger he poses to their crew. Any changes in the storyline have yet to be announced, but Universal Pictures has spent the last four months combing over the script and revising the scenes with Wan and writer Chris Morgan. However the final product turns out, it will no doubt be a tribute to one of the cornerstones of the franchise.
