The 'Gilmore Girls' Revival Saves The Theme Song

When you think of Gilmore Girls, what's the first thing that comes to mind? It might be a favorite character, or Luke's Diner, or maybe a Friday night dinner. But whatever image pops into your head, I can guarantee that the only thing you hear is the iconic Gilmore Girls theme song, "Where You Lead" by Carole King. And if you thought the Netflix revival was missing something when you started watching at the crack of down on Nov. 25, don't worry, you didn't fall asleep and miss it. We don't hear the theme song in the Gilmore Girls revival until the every end of the very last episode, "Fall."

Without giving away any actual spoilers, I think it's very fitting that Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life saves the song for this moment. Going into the series, the writers knew fans would likely be watching all four episodes at once, and so the revival didn't need to follow the traditional format of an opening credits sequence, complete with theme song, in every installment. Instead, each of the four episodes is united by Sam Phillips' familiar "la las," as well as the music of the town troubadour and a soundtrack that perfectly fits the show's tone.

Holding the theme song until the very end of the revival also makes hearing it all the more powerful. Fans haven't heard that song accompanying a new episode of Gilmore Girls in over nine years, and waiting six hours to finally get it makes the end of A Year in the Life even more emotional. And once you see the final scene and the emotions it invokes, you'll immediately understand why it needed to be followed with "Where You Lead" and find yourself crying even harder.
