John Mayer Cannot Handle 'This Is Us'

by Jordana Lipsitz

The Thanksgiving holidays are the perfect time to eat too much for the grand feast (or later, grand leftover feasts), take a nap on the couch, and then dive into some deeply emotional TV show or film. John Mayer seems to totally get this concept, as shown by a few of his tweets in the days following Thanksgiving. In a string of posts, the singer and apparent puddle of emotions divulged his deep feels regarding a certain NBC series following a family during different decades, and Mayer's thoughts about This is Us will resonate with anyone who's checked out the show.

While many were hitting the streets for the best Black Friday deals after their Thanksgiving celebrations, Mayer was apparently cozied up with his TV getting caught up on This Is Us. After getting through the first episode and apparently experiencing some very deep emotions, Mayer tweeted, "just saw the first episode of ‘This is Us’ and I’m hooked. Cryin’ and hooked." I mean, same, John. Same.

But Mayer didn't just talk about his love for the show. He also acknowledged that he was basically ugly-crying while watching the series, saying, "Not even wiping away tears for the next episodes. Just gonna let the first ones create tracks for a more even, efficient flow." I'm into the efficiency of this. Very into it. Besides, we've all been there, am I right?

Don't worry, guys, in case you were concerned, the whole thing got even better (though slightly less relatable for us normals) when Mandy Moore, who stars as Rebecca in the series, got into the game. She told Mayer she was happy he "dug" the series, and Mayer responded with this hilarious line: "Beyond dig, @TheMandyMoore. I’m about to attempt one of the most emotionally reckless stunts ever: watching an episode ON AN AIRPLANE."

That is an emotionally reckless stunt. But it just proves that when it comes to cry-watching heartwarming family dramedies, Mayer truly is just like us.
