Listen to Sarah McLachlan's New Single!

by Mallory Schlossberg

Do you miss the Lilith Fair? Well, Sarah McLachlan is back with a new single — and no, it's not on an ASPCA commercial. Gone are the days of remembering her as the spokeswoman for saving cats, and back are the days of Starbucks-friendly music!

McLachlan, who is 46 (and looks stunning, may I add), has released "In Your Shoes," which is the first single from her forthcoming album "Shine On," which will be her first release in four years. The track actually carries some weight; McLachlan told E! that she originally started writing the song about bullying, and it eventually turned into a melody about the assassination of Malala Yousafzai. She says:

It started out as a song about bullying and then Malala was shot by the Taliban and that story became big news. She sort of became an inspiration for finishing the song [...] She's a heroine, for everybody, but these days young girls haven't had a lot of strong role models to look up to, and I think she's just an incredibly positive role model for girls and humanity in general. Obviously, it was a perfect catalyst for me to finish that song.

In addition to releasing a powerful new single, McLachlan is also gearing up for a tour, which will not be a spectacle, since she considers a herself a musician first and foremost. She says that she'll tour with a five piece band and keep it focused on her new music. Tickets are on sale already for the tour, which kicks off this June. IT'S LIKE LILITH FAIR ALL OVER AGAIN. My only question is — where's the Paul Cole and Shawn Colvin revival movement? (Hello, I apparently am a 47 year old mother in the body of a 25 year old woman. Now you know my deepest, darkest secret.)

You can check out her new single right over here — it's definitely a sharp turn from the ubiquitous "Angel."
