There are few places you can go to buy holiday gifts for every singly person on your list, and Target happens to be one of them. Makeup for you sister, home decorations for your mom, new headphones for your Dad — Target's got you covered. But considering not every gift you give (or receive, for the matter) is going to be knock-it-out-of-the-park-perfect, it's important to know how much of an actual commitment you're making when you buy them. So what is Target's return policy?
The overarching rule, according to the company's website, is that most unopened items that are in new condition and returned within 90 days will receive a refund or exchange. If you have a TargetRED card, you have up to 120 days to make the return. Keep in mind, though, that the key word in the policy is "most," which means that not all of Target's product fall under this umbrella. Certain items have unique return specfications, which will be listed at the bottom of the receipt when you purchase.
Here is a complete list of the exceptions to the rule, and keep in mind: If a product is damaged or you don't have a receipt when you bring it back, Target has the right to deny the return. Happy shopping!
1. Target Owned Brands
Women's String Bikini Bottom Multi Tribal - Xhilaration, $14.99, Target.com
You have up to a year to return any items from Target owned brands, such as Mossimo, Merona and Xhilaration (You can find the complete list here).
2. Beauty Products
E.L.F. Eyeshadow Palette "Mad For Matte," $10, Target.com
You can return most opened or unopened beauty products for up to 90 days, or up to 120 days if you're a TargetRED card holder.
3. Collectibles
Barbie Collector 10th Anniversary Tokidoki Barbie Doll, $52, Target.com
Open or defective collectibles like sports cards, special edition Barbie dolls, porcelain dolls, action figures and die-cast cars, cannot be returned.
4. Holiday Items
Joy Pillows Set of Three, $19.99, Target.com
Check the receipt, or ask the cashier before you buy — Holiday items and limited-time-only collections may have modified return policies.
5. Electronics
Beats 2 Solo Wireless Headphones, $199, Target.com
All electronics and entertainment items must be returned within 30 days for a refund or exchange. For these items purchased between Nov. 1 and Dec. 25, the 30-day refund period will start the day after Christmas.
