Satanists Perform Ritual to Turn Westboro Lady Gay

First there was Dan Savage's mockery of the Mormon practice of baptizing dead people who weren’t Mormons — including Holocaust victims — by creating the website "All Dead Mormons Are Now Gay." The site allows anyone to enter the name of your favorite Mormon, and convert them with the click of a button. Perfect act of retaliation.

Now, the The Satanic Temple has decided to join in with its own retaliation stunt in response to the Westboro Baptist Church's anti-gay funeral-picketing tactics. They declared in a press release that they "traveled to the grave site of the mother of Westboro Baptist Church founder Fred Phelps in order to stage a formal ceremony celebrating same-sex unions."

The ceremony they performed was a "Pink Mass," described by Vice as a ritual performed after death and designed to turn a straight person into a homosexual, regardless of whether or not that person is currently alive. The ritual apparently is performed by having same sex-couples make out over the tombstone of the deceased. In the case of Sunday's Pink Mass, the ritual was performed twice — once with two gay men, and once with two lesbians.

Satanic Temple spokesperson Lucien Greaves explained in the press release that their original idea for the Pink Mass ceremony "came during the aftermath of the tragic Boston Marathon bombings, during which time the WBC were threatening to protest the funerals of the bombing victims.” It is also a response to the Westboro Baptist Church’s announcement that they intend to picket the funeral of 31 year-old “Glee” actor, Cory Monteith.
