Bye Bye, Super-Dad!

"Goodbye, my son. Our hopes and dreams travel with you." So said Jor-El in hologram form in 2013's Superman reboot Man of Steel. But it's looking like the super-daddy won't have many more words of wisdom in store for the symbol of truth, justice, and the American way. Yahoo! News reports the man behind the alien, Russell Crowe, won't be returning for the Batman vs. Superman movie. And, no, it's not because they recast Batman with Ben Affleck in the role instead of Christian Bale.

Instead, Crowe makes it clear that he thinks the new movie will be "going with different superhero worlds colliding" as a theme rather than Man of Steel's look at Clark Kent's origins and moral growth as a hero. While Jor-El fit in perfectly with the narrative of Man of Steel and had significant impact to make on that story, there's probably not going to be too much call for Clark's alien parent when Superman and Batman's worlds intersect.

That doesn't mean that he's not interested in returning for the film if they ask him to. The release date of the movie has been delayed until 2016 to give the filmmakers plenty of time to realize the complexity of their vision or whatever weak excuse Warner Bros. is pushing at the moment, so two years is more than enough time to try and fit Jor-El into the new storyline somehow. He spent most of Man of Steel as a hologram since he'd been dead for eighteen thousand years by the time Clark actually meets him, so who's to say Superman won't find time to look his father up for help with Lex Luthor? Or maybe he'll be around to help Wonder Woman out of a jam like he did with Lois Lane? If anyone can get that hologram working again, it's Batman.

After all, as comic fans say, the only people who stay dead in comics, are Bucky, Jason Todd, and Uncle Ben. And we all know the first two came back.
