'Vanderpump Rules' Won't Be The Same Without Lala

Ever since Lala Kent was outed for lying about an Italian modeling job in Season 4 of Vanderpump Rules (turns out "modeling job" was code for "chillin' on a rich person's yacht") she's been crucified by most of her fellow cast members. This year, they didn't take it any easier on her. Save for her three allies (DJ James Kennedy and the-most-normal-people-on-the-show, Tom and Ariana), almost every cast member was alarmingly curious about Lala's personal life. But, after weeks of the other SURvers giving Lala a hard time — i.e. questioning where her new Range Rover came from — the hostess decided to call it quits on Vanderpump Rules. According to an interview with Toofab, Lala Kent will be leaving Vanderpump Rules in the middle of the fifth season.

I'm not saying she's the most important person on the show, or that the show will go through a drastic upheaval when she leaves, I'm just saying that there's no one else like Lala Kent on Vanderpump Rules. Or on any other reality television show for that matter. Who else would say things like "I'm not dating a married human being" and "Obviously I’m not getting paid to have sex... [though] would be dope"? Who else would so perfectly describe The Fountainhead as "a book about architecture and architects"? Katie's not sitting in her confessionals cracking any self-deprecating jokes. You won't find Kristen saying that she's "taken up reading books."

Lala embodies an ideal and rare reality television personality; she's unabashed, down-to-earth, refreshingly cavalier, and openly flawed. (She's funny too.) Her absence will create an insatiable void that can only be filled by her and her massive hoop earrings.

Lala told TooFab,

I'm excited for people to watch me exit, because it's just going to show a new side of my life and I think it will get to show people who I really am... I watch the show sometimes and I'm like that's not me. I want people to see who I actually hang out with, my day-to-day life. And I never got to show that.

She wants people to see who she hangs out with and her day-to-day life? Does that mean a spin-off could be happening? Bravo? Andy Cohen? Netflix? (OK, that last one's a stretch.)

The hostess added, "I made it halfway through the season and just decided that I want no part of the people anymore. I feel like they don't deserve to be in my world in any way shape or form. So I dismissed myself." That's fair enough. She gave it a good run. Ultimately, Lala just wasn't willing to play along with the rules, and, as the SURvers and ex-SURvers will tell you, in order to survive, you have to. But, as Lala seems to recognize, she can't be held down and molded into something she's not. Maybe she was just too great for these people. Maybe this is bigger than Range Rovers and Loubs and Chanel purses. Maybe this is bigger than all of us.

Whatever she does, Lala Kent will prevail. (But preferably in a spin-off series.)
