Kanye Has A Signed Copy Of Trump's 'TIME' Cover

by Lia Beck

Looks like someone really wants to define the relationship. On Wednesday, Kanye West tweeted a photo of his signed copy of Donald Trump's TIME magazine cover and the message the president-elect wrote to the rapper makes it clear where they stand. (Or where he thinks they stand? I honestly can't really tell what's going on with them.) Trump wrote in silver metallic Sharpie (always have on of those on hand if your magazine cover has a black background), "To Kanye You are a great friend. Thanks." And "great" is underlined, either signifying that Trump really likes West or further confirming his obsession with the word "great."

As you know if you follow the news or talked to anyone yesterday, on Tuesday, West and Trump had a meeting at Trump Tower in New York City. Kris Jenner's boyfriend Corey Gamble was there too, naturally, because 2016 has become a mashup of things even the reality TV obsessed among us never wanted to see. Trump and West kept pretty mum when speaking to the press after their meeting. Trump said they "discussed life"; West said, "I just want to take a picture right now."

Afterward, though, West spoke out on Twitter and let the world know why he wanted to meet with Trump. "I wanted to meet with Trump today to discuss multicultural issues," he wrote. "These issues included bullying, supporting teachers, modernizing curriculums, and violence in Chicago ... I feel it is important to have a direct line of communication with our future President if we truly want change."

Sounds legit. But then he tweeted something a bit more disconcerting: "#2024." The rapper-slash-fashion-designer had said before that he'd be interested in running for president in 2020 — the first time was at the 2015 VMAs — but saying "#2024" after meeting with Trump seemed to hint that he thought Trump might be president for eight years, meaning he himself would run in 2024 instead.

While it's unclear what the status of Trumpye will become in the future (Press Secretary West? "Famous Pt. 2 (Feat. Lil Drumpf"?), right now it looks like they have at least some sort of mutual respect going on, and the signed TIME cover only confirms that further.

P.S. Kim, if you're reading this, you can totally hide the Trump cover in with the other reading materials in ya'll's fourth guest bathroom. Kanye will never find it.
