Lauren Jauregui Was Given A Citation For Marijuana

Despite previous reports about the Fifth Harmony singer that surfaced Wednesday, according to a statement released to People by her band's lawyer, Lauren Jauregui was not arrested for marijuana possession. "Lauren Jauregui was not arrested and detained as reported, but simply given a citation for possession of marijuana and released on her own recognizance," lawyer Dina LaPolt said. "She will address the matter appropriately through the legal system. This will not interfere with any future scheduled performances or activities."

According to a TMZ report shared Wednesday, Jauregui was stopped at a TSA checkpoint at the Washington Dulles International Airport Tuesday night. TMZ claimed law enforcement told the publication that TSA performed a secondary search on Jauregui and discovered a bag allegedly containing marijuana in her carry-on luggage. At the time of TMZ's report, it was also claimed that Jauregui was immediately arrested. TMZ's post has since been updated with the statement from Jauregui's lawyer

A Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority spokeswoman claimed to People that the 20-year-old singer was charged for possession of marijuana, which has since been disputed by Fifth Harmony's attorney. The spokeswoman also claimed People that Jauregui was released on a summons.

It appears that the band was flying to Brazil as part of their tour to promote their 7/27 album. Per E! News, the band is still scheduled for a Wednesday performance in Saõ Paulo, Brazil and will also sing at Power 96.1's Jingle Ball in Atlanta, Georgia on Friday.
