Toby Isn't In The 'Pretty Little Liars' Trailer

by Amy Mackelden

The latest Pretty Little Liars trailer is proof that fans of the show have a lot to look forward to in 2017. Not only does the trailer give a glimpse of Wren Kingston, but it also hints at a host of exciting and terrifying events. From Aria's phone spontaneously catching fire to Spencer's anger turning into physical rage, Season 7B of the Freeform show looks immense. Despite most fan favorites appearing in the video, there are some characters strangely missing. And this might signal bad news for Toby Cavanaugh fans, as Toby is not in the Pretty Little Liars trailer for Season 7B. So, should Spoby lovers start panicking?

While it's probably too early to start crying and throwing stuff around the room, Toby's absence has not gone unnoticed. The midseason cliffhanger left Toby's fate up in the air, with the character getting involved in a devastating car crash when trying to leave Rosewood. Fans have remained positive that Toby survived the crash with many still hoping that he'll reunite with Spencer before the finale. But if Toby isn't dead, why is he missing from the latest Pretty Little Liars trailer? Keegan Allen is a staple on the show, and it's almost impossible to imagine PLL without him.

Back in August 2016, when asked about Toby's fate, I. Marlene King told Variety, “People know I love the character of Toby so you can read into that what you want to read into that." Luckily for fans, King has a soft spot for Allen's character, meaning that there's a big chance she'll keep him alive. While King confirmed that Noel was totally dead, she wasn't even capable of keeping a poker face when it came to Toby. She said, “He’s one of my favorites on the show. It would be hard for me to make that phone call to him.” I'm breathing a little sigh of relief right now, as Spoby has to be endgame, as far as I'm concerned.

Allen and King have also been vocal on social media throughout filming of the final 10 episodes of Pretty Little Liars. While plot points have been kept tightly under wraps, both shared a photo of Allen's final day of filming on set. On his Instagram account, Allen shared the photo with his castmates and said, "So grateful for the support of our fans and friends. I will miss this family so very much." Sharing the same photo on Twitter, King wrote,

"This was a tough one. That's a series wrap on @KeeganAllen. One of the most special people I know. Love u Keegs."

Needless to say, we are all broken now.

It seems slightly suspicious that Allen wrapped before everyone else did and this could mean several things. Perhaps Toby did die in that car crash during the midseason finale, and only appears in flashbacks in 7B. It's also possible that Toby dies during 7B, which is why the actor didn't make it to the last day of filming. Conversely, it could be a good sign for Spoby fans, as it likely means that Toby isn't A.D.

Toby's absence from the Pretty Little Liars trailer is certainly suspicious, but it doesn't necessarily mean he's dead. Yet.
