13 Ashlee Simpson Songs To Revisit Right Now

by Amy Mackelden

It's so hard to believe that Ashlee Simpson's last album, Bittersweet World, came out in 2008. The singer has worked incredibly hard since then, from appearing in revivals of the musical Chicago to taking on acting roles in TV shows and movies. Her personal life has also kept her super busy, as she gave birth to her second child in July 2015, and married partner Evan Ross in August 2014. But finally, it sounds as though Simpson will release new music in 2017, which is actually the best news I've heard all week.

According to Simpson, it's thanks to her husband Ross that fans are finally getting new music from the "Pieces Of Me" singer. She told US Weekly, "We’re working on an album together. So in the new year, that will be happening!” Clearly, Simpson's marriage is having a productive influence on her work life, with her husband encouraging her return to music. Ross also told Us Weekly, "Music is something so important to both of us. So we’ll release this album and then she’ll work on hers.” So not only does Simpson feature on Ross' album, but she'll be recording new solo material very soon? I cannot wait.

In the meantime, here are some of Simpson's best tracks to listen to in preparation for her next album.

1. "Pieces Of Me"

The original and the classic. Simpson's name is synonymous with this hit single.

2. "La La"

One of my personal favorite songs from the Autobiography album. "La La" sounds like Kelly Osbourne crossed with Avril Lavigne. Perfect.

3. "Boyfriend"

As the first single from Simpson's second album I Am Me, "Boyfriend" leans more heavily on her rock sound and has a really catchy chorus.

4. "Invisible"

Featured on the Bratz soundtrack, "Invisible" is Simpson's cover version of the Jaded Era song.

5. "Autobiography"

The first track on Simpson's Autobiography album is the perfect introduction to her sound.

6. "Outta My Head (Ay Ya Ya)"

This 2007 track from Simpson's third album sees the singer trying out a grungier sound with some playful electronic beats.

7. "Shadow"

Simpson's vocals on "Shadow" will remind you that the singer is related to Jessica Simpson.

8. "L.O.V.E."

If any track is going to make you reminisce about 2005, it's this.

9. "Bat For A Heart"

While Simpson's last album Bittersweet World came out in 2008, the singer released a single in 2012 called "Bat For a Heart." Heavily infused with an electronic pop sound, the single was a new direction for the musician. However, the track wasn't a commercial success, so Simpson put her album plans on hold.

10. "Happy Christmas"

Simpson's duet on stage with her sister is super cute. Their voices really complement each other, and it's exciting to see them perform together.

11. "Little Drummer Boy"

Another rare Christmas duet from the famous siblings, which is perfect listening for the holiday season.

12. "Beautifully Broken"

Classic Ashlee Simpson.

13. "I Am Me"

Simpson channeling Courtney Love.

Hopefully the "La La" singer won't keep us waiting for new music too much longer. The world is ready for the younger Simpson's music career to be rebooted.
