2017 Will Be The Year Of 'Wonder Woman'

The women of America may not have gotten our first female president, but at least we're about to get the first female superhero movie by a major studio. Yeah, OK, it's not exactly a fair trade, but at this point, we'll take what we can get. Wonder Woman will be the first major female superhero movie to be released, and it might be the most highly anticipated superhero movie of the coming year. But Wonder Woman is just one of the seven superhero movies I can't wait to see in 2017.

2017 will be a packed year for comic book lovers. Superhero movies of 2017 will have a good balance of both DC and Marvel, sequel and origin stories. There will be a few lighthearted super fights and a few moody, broody ones. Superheroes will have to come out of retirement or make make names for themselves, and they will work with other superheroes from different movies, too. New franchises will be born, old ones will be reborn, and we'll finally get to see Tom Hiddleston's Loki again. Here are the seven biggest superhero movies of 2017 that you'll definitely want to see.

1. Wonder Woman — Jun. 2

Wonder Woman cannot come soon enough. The arrival of a female-driven superhero movie is long overdue, and having a female director behind it just makes it even better. This Wonder Woman origin story will hopefully kick off DC's first major female superhero franchise and will almost definitely serve to set up Justice League. In other words: it's going to be huge. I can honestly think of nothing I need to see in theaters more than a kickass woman take control of her destiny and fight bad guys. Come June of 2017, it will be Wonder Woman's world.

2. Thor: Ragnarok — Nov. 3

Normally, I wouldn't be so excited for a Thor movie — even fans have to admit, Thor: The Dark World was pretty bleak — but Thor: Ragnarok, the third in the series, sounds extremely promising. Most of the buzz comes from the addition of stars Cate Blanchett, Karl Urban, and Tessa Thompson, not to mention the fact that fellow Avengers the Hulk and Dr. Strange will be joining in on the fun. Thor: Ragnarok could be the closest thing we get to a Hulk movie, which is one of my deepest superhero desires, so, to say I am ready for this movie would be an understatement.

3. Justice League — Nov. 17

DC's attempt at a cinematic universe is full speed ahead after the success of Batman v. Superman (even if critics hated it, the box office sure didn't). Justice League will be DC's first big step into expanding their franchise beyond Superman, Batman, and Wonder Woman. With Flash and Aquaman movies already in the works, the fate of the DC cinematic universe as we know it could rest in the hands of Justice League, making it one of the most highly anticipated movies of the year. (Plus, Aquaman, who was featured heavily in the first teaser for the film, looks pretty damn awesome.)

4. Logan — Mar. 3

The third Wolverine movie is a lot moodier than any of the previous X-Men films, and that's by design. Logan takes place in a time when the X-Men have disappeared and Logan's superpowers are fading — hence the Old Man Logan look. Fans are dying to see this new Logan version of Wolverine, and I can't say I blame them.

5. Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 2 — May. 5

Baby Groot returns in a movie I assume was originally called Baby Groot: Don't Call It A Comeback. Groot jokes aside, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 should hopefully be a fun break from the Civil War drama of 2016, with the gang of misfit heroes all back together again for some good old fashioned space adventures.

6. Spider-Man: Homecoming — Jul. 7

Everyone is excited for Spider-Man: Homecoming , including me. After his fun debut in Captain America: Civil War, Tom Holland is getting his own big movie, and here's hoping that the full thing is as fun as the trailer promises it to be.

7. The LEGO Batman Movie — Feb. 10

Before Ben Affleck flies in his own solo Batman movie, the hero will be on the big screen — Lego style. A spinoff of The Lego Movie, The LEGO Batman Movie stars Will Arnett as the cocky, billionaire superhero, Ralph Fiennes as Alfred, and Michael Cera as Robin. It should be a fun time at the movies for all.

No matter which of these seven superhero movies you can't wait to see, I think we can all agree on one thing: 2017 is going to be a pretty good year for heroes who wear capes.
