Is He The New Bond Villain?

by Mallory Schlossberg

We may have a new arch nemesis for 007. Chiwetel Ejiofor just may be the new James Bond villain — although we don't know for certain yet. Still, Variety said that the 12 Years A Slave actor is MGM and Sony's top choice for the role. The studios have yet to comment on anything, but we know that Eljiofor is eyeing the role, too.

If he does take on the role, this could potentially be huge for his career. In just a few years, he could go from starring in an Oscar Winning film to starring in one of the biggest franchises ever (even if Mark Wahlberg thinks Transformers is the most "iconic" franchise ever).

You may not think of Eljiofor as villainous, considering his heroic role in 12 Years A Slave, but he has dabbled in depravity before, particularly when he appeared in "Children of Men" and "Four Brothers." The studio seems to be looking for someone with an intriguing persona (and an Oscar nomination under his belt), after Javier Bardem had great success as the villain the most recent Bond pic, Skyfall.

We don't know much else about the movie — plot details have yet to be announced, but we do know that we can expect the movie to hit theaters in November, 2015. We also know that Daniel Craig will return as 007, and Naomie Harris, Ralph Fiennes, and Ben Whishlaw will co-star again. Sam Mendes will direct it.

And while discussing potential details for new Bond film, can we get another killer Adele song for this new movie? I still have "Skyfall" stuck in my head, but in the best way ever. So, on that note (and just because)...
