Thomas Has A "Major Announcement"

by Lia Beck

A new episode of Southern Charm airs Monday night, but one of the stars is more excited about what will happen after. Thomas Ravenel is making an announcement on Watch What Happens Live immediately following Southern Charm's new episode. According to Fitsnews, Ravenel said he will make a "major announcement' on the Andy Cohen-hosted show and there are really only a couple of viable options for what it could be. I mean, he could announce that he's starting a line of khakis and that wouldn't be totally surprising, but it's probably about politics or love.

Ravenel has been open about the fact that he's considering running for U.S. Senate against incumbent republican Lindsey Graham. Graham will face off against opponents in the primary this June and Ravenel has said, "If Lindsey (Graham) wins the nomination, I will probably throw my hat into the ring." Ravenel would run as an independent. He has made it very clear that he is no fan of Graham and in February wrote an opinion piece for South Carolina's The State arguing against Graham's views on the National Security Agency. Ravenel deciding to announce that he's running ahead of the primary would make sense because at this point he's able to use Southern Charm's popularity to drum up interest in his campaign.

Another announcement possibility, and one that would be much more interesting to most Southern Charm fans, would be an engagement to Kathryn Dennis. It seems that Dennis and Ravenel are still together, but they haven't been totally straight forward about their relationship. This could be because they are saving the big news for a televised announcement. If they aren't engaged, another option is that they're actually having a baby this time and that their dayss of celebrating empty wombs with margaritas are over.

WWHL's other guests are Ravenel's costars Cameran Eubanks and Shep Rose. With Dennis not listed as one of the guests, unless she shows up as a surprise, my guess is that Ravenel will be announcing his boring and futile run for Senate. Ravenel, South Carolina's former state treasurer, resigned from office when he was charged with participation in a cocaine distribution ring. This, plus a starring role on a reality show, really slashes one's chances of getting elected. But don't take my word for it, according to College of Charleston political scientist Kendra Stewart, "I don't think he has a chance in hell."
