Her Latest Photo Scandal Isn't What You Think

by Kadeen Griffiths

Kim Kardashian just can't seem to go on vacation without causing a stir. First she caught flack for posting selfies of herself at a Buddhist temple. Then there were those troubling slow motion videos that had us all wondering if we should be very afraid. And that was all after the Vogue cover that caused the world to lose their collective shit. The thing is, there are a lot of reasons to throw shade at Kim K without making one up, which is what seems to be going on right now. Kardashian is under fire for posting a Google image of Thailand to her Instagram and passing it off as one of her own vacation pictures, except that's not really what happened at all.

The Facts

Kardashian posted a picture to her Instagram five days ago with the caption "Thank you for the beautiful memories, Thailand". It was a gorgeous picture of green-tipped cliffs overlooking a sandy beach and it received almost 600,000 likes. The photo was just one of the many that Kardashian has been uploading to her Instagram to share her favorite moments from her Thailand trip and, aside from being beautiful, it was rather unremarkable compared to some of the others. At least, until someone noticed that the image is one of the first that came up when you search for Thailand Beach in Google.

The Reactions

Her Instagram feed filled with comments from fans arguing back and forth about whether or not it was fraudulent of Kardashian to post an image from Google and act like she had taken it. On one side of the argument, there were people who were angry that Kardashian had led them to believe that she had taken this picture by posting it up with others that she had taken. On the other side of the argument, there were people pointing out that Kardashian had never actually said that she had taken every single picture she put on her Instagram.

On Tuesday, Kardashian took to her blog to rebuff the haters and explain her position:

I instagramed a pic of Thailand I found on Google thanking Thailand for the memories we had on our recent trip. I never claimed to have taken that pic. It was the best pic to show how pretty Thailand was. I was already home and couldn’t take a new pic… just didn’t have scenic pics on my phone! I see today people are calling me a fraud… but ummm when did I ever say i took that pic? LOL

The Verdict

It seems like just a silly little nitpick that got blown way out of proportion. Not every picture on an image sharing website like Instagram or Facebook or Tumblr is going to be taken by the person posting it and Kardashian never did actually say she had. Kim K has taken many pictures that are worth a thousand words, but for once this wasn't one of them.
