This On-Air Gaffe Is 'SNL' Worthy

by Mallory Schlossberg

Oh, no. Here's a big mistake that seems like it wouldn't happen in real life: Fox News' Heather Childers accidentally said the NAACP — when she meant to say the NCAA. There are so many things wrong with this, like for starters: the NAACP stands for the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People and the NCAA which stands for the National Collegiate Athletic Association. You would think a news anchor would know the difference, wouldn't you?

“The UConn Huskies are the 2014 NAACP National Champs,” Childers said, in a head-scratching, "oh, boy," moment. She tweeted, however, that she does, indeed, know the difference between the two, and that it would be fodder for late night comics.

But if you thought this sort of confusion was the sort of thing you'd see on Saturday Night Live, you're indeed right — Mother Jones pointed out that SNL made the exact same jokeconfusing the two acronyms — except this was intentional, rather than a verbal slip up. Is SNL a fortune teller?

On Saturday's SNL, the show parodied Fox & Friends, and the following transpired:

"It's tough to sign up for things" Bobby Moynihan, as Brian Kilmeade, said, referencing Obamacare, "I've tried for years to join the NAACP."

Vanessa Bayer, as Elisabeth Hasselback, asks back, "Brian, why would you do that?"

His response? "Well, I just love college basketball."

Uh, life imitates art?

You can see Childers' apology here (she misspoke, guys):

And you can watch the slip up over here:

And the bizarrely prophetic sketch over here:
