'Simpsons' Fans With A Lot Of Free Time Rejoice!

by Lia Beck

Are you a Simpsons fan with A LOT of free time? Like, 12 straight days and nights worth of free time? If so, you're in luck! FXX will be airing a Simpsons marathon of every single episode. The channel paid $750 million for "the exclusive cable and VOD/non-linear rights" in November meaning they can now show episodes of The Simpsons whenever they want and also have the option to stream them online or in an app.

The insanely long 12-day marathon uses this purchase to its full advantage and breaks a record at the same time. According to FX Networks executive Jon Landgraf, "It will be the longest continuous marathon in the history of television." The marathon will kick off Aug. 21 and continue until Labor Day when all 522 episodes have aired.

The Simpsons began in 1989, so for many of us this means literally a lifetime's worth of Simpson's episodes. It could really be a learning experience. What cultural events have The Simpsons commented on in the past 25 years? What did they leave out? Someone needs to watch all of them and then write up a sociological study.

It might be hard to make it through though.*

Going into the marathon you'll feel great.

But eventually you're going to need some snacks.

You'll grow ever more desperate for sustenance.

You'll try to convince others to join you so that you feel more secure in your decision.

It will become hard to keep staring at the screen and everything will stop coming up Millhouse.

You'll freak out.

And in the end, your brain will desert you.

So yeah, it's probably best to just catch a couple episodes here and there.

*Actually, it's impossible. Please don't attempt this.
