'Dirty White Boys' has TONS in Common with 'GoT'

So, the men behind the televised version of Game of Thrones are making a film. And no, it is not a much-discussed movie version of George R.R. Martin's Song of Ice and Fire tale. In fact, it's something else entirely: Dirty White Boys is set to hit the big screen with David Benioff and D.B. Weiss planted firmly in the writer/director/producer seats. The novel, set in midwestern America in the early half of the twentieth century (a.k.a. "reality"), tells the tale of three escaped convicts on the run after busting out of the McAlester State Penitentiary, leaving a bloodied and terrifying trail in their wake. It's a departure from the dragon-and-fantasy-filled world of Westeros, to be sure.

And even though some at Bustle believe the film will disappoint GoT fans, we think the opposite. Just because there's a lack of fantasy doesn't mean the two won't have a ton in common. In fact, we daresay the two have heaps in common — making it easy to see why the duo chose this as their first feature project together. That's what makes the dark and dirty political machinations of the Seven Kingdoms and The Realm so relatable: because terrible things and people are everywhere. Which is why we've decided to lay out the similarities of both to you.

And surprising (perhaps) to no one, it has a LOT to do with those men of House Lannister.

Dirty White Boys could the title of a Lannister-focused Novel.

The Story Involves Escaped Convicts.

...Of which there are many running amok in Westeros and Essos. Heck — the entire city of Braavos is basically made up of such folks. Heck, both Jaime and Tyrion have been prisoners in their life.
