Daniel Tosh Posts Tribute to Production Assistant

After Tosh.0 production assistant John Winkler was tragically killed last Monday, host Daniel Tosh has expressed his regrets on Twitter. "Only had the privilege of working with John Winkler for a short while," the comedian tweeted on Friday. "We extend our heartfelt sympathy to his family and friends."

Winkler was shot by a police officer who mistook him for a suspect they were searching for. The man in question was reportedly holding people hostage in Winkler's apartment and threatening them with a knife. The suspect was described as "a male, white, thin build, wearing a black shirt" so when Winkler escaped from his apartment dressed in a similar manner, police assumed he was the attacker. Police thought he was charging them (more like he was frantically running from a dangerous situation) and discharged their weapons. Reports later showed that Winkler was actually attempting to help the victims. The real suspect, Alexander McDonald, was later arrested and charged with murder, attempted murder, and torture. Winkler died of his wounds at the hospital.

"Taking the life of an innocent person is a police officer's greatest nightmare," Interim L.A. County Sheriff John Scott said after the incident.

Winkler had worked at comedy show Tosh.0 after moving to L.A. six months ago to pursue his love of entertainment. On Friday the show also issued a similar statement to Daniel Tosh's saying, "Comedy Central and Tosh.0 extend their deepest condolences to the family of John Winkler. We only had the privilege of working with him for a short while and extend heartfelt sympathy to his family and friends during this tragic time."
