Stars Go Glam for 2014 GLAAD Awards

by Mary Avant

When something as fun and exciting as the 2014 MTV Movie Awards — with its playful red carpet, sexy star style, shirtless men, hilarious host, and celeb-packed front rows — takes place, it can be easy to forget that it wasn’t the only awards show to soak up the spotlight over the weekend. In fact, there was one event — the 25th Annual Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation (GLAAD) Media Awards — that not only attracted a slew of big-name celebs, but also boasted a super-stylish red carpet full of looks whose sex appeal and fashion savvy nearly rivaled that of the MTV Movie Awards.

Star power alert: the Lupita Nyong’o graced the GLAAD Awards with her presence. And in a fashion that’s become typical for the Hollywood It-girl, she looked as naturally and effortlessly flawless as always. Sporting a forest green and yellow, iridescent brocade-patterned sheath dress from designer Antonio Berardi, the 12 Years a Slave actress and multi-award winner looked her usual fabulous self at the annual event. Matching the cobalt blue panels on her midi-length dress to her shiny Christian Louboutin heels in the same hue, the gorgeous star finished off her look with a sparkling clutch, gold stud earrings, a swipe of emerald-green eyeliner, and a glossy red lip.

Host Jennifer Lopez chose a similar shade of blue to accent her sheer and sequin-embellished, branch-pattern dress from Zuhair Murad. Pairing the detailed, high-neck dress with flowing locks; nude lips; black, platform pumps; and a matching black clutch, the actress, singer, and American Idol judge pulled off this sparkling stunner with ease.

Supermodel Naomi Campbell chose a big, bold look for the annual event, complementing her flowing and belted leopard-print maxi dress with a voluminous, curly hairstyle; dangling gold earrings; and the perfect number of understated bracelets and rings to accent her ’70s-inspired ensemble.

Taking a more subtle approach to pattern than Campbell, actress and singer Kat Graham hit the red carpet in a contrasting and printed, two-piece ensemble, which she paired with natural makeup, a relaxed bob, a boxy clutch, and embellished ankle-strap heels.

Extra host Maria Menounous showed up to the event sporting her take on the sexy LBD with a long-sleeved, gathered number that showed a whole lot of skin while still looking elegant and sophisticated. Pairing the dress with a simple updo and metallic sandals, Menounos mastered seductive-chic style like a pro.

While it may not have been a red carpet full of lingerie-inspired ensembles and rainbow-colored dresses like the MTV Movie Awards, the 2014 GLAAD Media Awards definitely packed a style punch of its own.
