15 Brilliant Reactions To The Blood Moon

On the night of Monday April 14, some of us were awake waiting to see the long-awaited blood moon eclipse that NASA had predicted. The eclipse was supposed to begin around 10 p.m. PST (which was 1 a.m. April 15 EST), and was expected to be fully visible to residents in North and South America. While a cloudy night marred the viewing experience for some people on the East Coast, residents of the West and Midwest had perfect access to the sky.

The eclipse "peaked" between 3 a.m. and 4:30 a.m. EST, marking the first time since Dec. 20, 2010 that a blood moon was visible to North America. For those of us who missed it, have no fear: More full blood moon eclipses will be visible from the continent in the upcoming year and a half, namely on Oct. 8, 2014; April 4, 2015; and Sept. 28, 2015.

These four blood moon eclipses form a "tetrad," which is science speak for four consecutive total lunar eclipses. Astronomer Fred Espenak has predicted that throughout this century, there will be nine tetrads, with the blood moon last night marking the start of the 21st century's second tetrad (the first tetrad took place in 2003).
