Drake's In Trouble For Plagiarizing Music — Oops?

Oof. There's a lot of music out there, so given the amount of people making that music — and the amount of people making a lot of money off of some of that music — every once in a while a piece of it's bound to get stolen, or at the very least recycled. But that doesn't stop it from being a big deal when someone like Drake's sued for allegedly trying to get away with stealing those tunes.

The tune in question involves the lyrics of jazz musician Jimmy Smith, which Drake reportedly used for the song "Pound Cake/Paris Morton Music 2," off his newest album. The album apparently claims to have Smith's permission for the use of the lyrics (which appear in a monologue within the track), but alas, Smith's estate seems to disagree. Cue lawsuit.

Drake hasn't had much time to respond to these claims yet, so obviously we don't know exactly how this will shake out. But we've got to hope/assume that he'll handle it better/in a less douchetastic way than one Shia LaBeouf, the last celebrity to be publicly accused of plagiarism.

Yeah, let's just assume this won't culminate in Drake sitting in a Los Angeles art gallery, crying at Buzzfeed employees with a paper bag over his head.

Please god let this not end that way. Live and learn not to make the same mistakes as Shia LaBeouf, as I always say.
