Gloria Allred To File Lawsuit Against Bob Filner

by Lane Florsheim

Earlier this month, San Diego Mayor Bob Filner (D) admitted to sexual harassment — but refused to step down, instead insisting that he would receive counseling for his transgressions. Now, it looks like keeping his job might have just gotten a little harder.

The mayor's former communications director, Irene McCormack Jackson, said at a news conference Monday that she has filed a sexual harassment lawsuit against Filner.

“I am coming forward today to lay the blame at the feet of the person responsible, Mayor Bob Filner,” McCormack Jackson said. “He is not fit to be mayor of our great city. He is not fit to hold any public office.”

Allred said that Filner asked McCormack Jackson to "work without her panties on," placed her in a headlock, and told her he wanted to consummate their relations — among other incidents.

Lovely.

Though McCormack Jackson is the first person to publicly accuse Filner of sexual harassment, he has faced anonymous allegations of harassing "numerous" women in recent weeks.

Allred, who also represented Sharon Bialek (the woman who accused Herman Cain of sexual harassment), urged other victims to come forward, saying “We think that silence only favors the wrongdoer and not the victims."
