What's Next For Margaery?

by Mallory Schlossberg

For any Game of Thrones fan, the arrival of Friday means we can finally start the realistic countdown to Sunday, which is when we will finally get another GoT episode. Okay, so maybe I'm projecting my GoT fan problems, but I know I'm not alone. So! To quench your thirst, I bring you a Game of Thrones teaser from Margaery (Natalie Dormer) about life post-Joffrey in Westeros.

When Dormer talks, we should listen. After all, she's a worthy person to speak about what's coming next. Her wedding was rather, um, purple, to say the least, since it culminated with her husband, King Joffrey, choking and dying. (It was a huge deal, but the only thing that might have overshadowed Joffrey's death could have been Margaery's hair, but we can discuss that at another time.)

Anyway! When Entertainment Weekly asked Dormer if she could give any teasers for Sunday's impending episode and Margaery's future, she said:

Well, politically, it’s a disaster, to lose one husband is bad but to lose two husbands is careless! It’s really bad PR for Margaery. So regardless of what she thought of Joffrey as a human being, it’s not a good place for her to be in. So she’s like cursed or tainted goods … Margaery has to recuperate after Joffrey’s death. She feels like she’s failed. And that’s where Olenna [Diana Rigg] is very important again at sort of galvanizing her. That’s why I like Margaery, because she’s human. You see that she’s been traumatized by watching Joffrey die. That goes back to my saying about her being a genuinely sincere, sensitive person. She’s just strong at hiding it. She’s lost her husband, and she’s lost the queenship in one fell swoop. So she has to start from scratch again, which is a tall order.

Welp, that completely eliminates the Margaery bracket in the "who killed Joffrey" sweeps. We also know that she's lost the queenship — so any of those speculations are off the charts now, too. Will Olenna Tyrrell (PLEASE GIVE DIANA RIGG HER OWN SHOW!) try to reinstate Margaery's power? Doesn't this also take Olenna off the Joffrey-killer charts, too?

Or is Dormer just teasing us, and Margaery actually killed Joffrey? (Probably not.) We do know that we're going to see a Margaery renaissance and revival, as pretty much the rest of Westeros continues to crumble because, well, it's Westeros. Hopefully we'll also get to hear even more of her motives; this is a tactful lady who's gone about things differently than other folks have. While they stab each other, she feeds the poor. See the difference?

Aah, teasers! We'll have to tune in on Sunday to find out but whatever happens on this week's episode, let's just hope she keeps those awesome threads. Those seem to be more of a Highgarden thing, anyway.
