The Fanciest Ice Cream Sundae On Earth Costs..

by Demetria Irwin

Dessert is a beautiful, wonderful, and, dare I say, completely necessary part of the human diet. Some government employees obviously forgot to put dessert into that plate chart thing when they ditched the food pyramid concept in 2011. I've been a staunch supporter of dessert my whole life (a fact my parents can vouch for) but even I can't condone some of the wackadoo desserts out here now. Starting on May 1, NYC's Bagatelle restaurant will be offering a $1,000 ice cream sundae. $1,000! Here's the scoop (ha!) on that and a couple of the zanier desserts in existence. Would you try any of them?

1. The $1,000 Ice Cream Sundae

If you have rent money to spare and you like ice cream and jewelry, this could be the dessert for you. Bagatelle is offering up the "Mauboussin Mega Sundae" for a very reasonable $1,000. For your 10 Benjamin Franklins, you get vanilla ice cream, Dom Perignon Rose sorbet, macaroons, chocolate vodka sauce (interesting), gold leaf sprinkles, chocolate truffles, and a white gold and black steel ring valued at $530. As you can see, it's a pretty dessert, the ring is kind of cute and I'm definitely wanting to give that chocolate vodka sauce a whirl, but $1,000? I'd rather keep a roof over my head.

2. The Guinness World Record Holder

A $1,000 ice cream sundae sounds ridiculous, but that's pocket change compared to the Guinness World Record holder for most expensive dessert. That honor goes to another New York City restaurant, Serendipity3, for its $25,000 chocolate sundae. It's called the "Frrozen Haute Chocolate" and I'm a tad impressed by the cleverness of the name and the fact that they used chocolate instead of the far-inferior vanilla is applause-worthy. The restaurant hits the five-figure mark by putting the dessert in a goblet lined with edible 18-carat gold and adding exotic chocolates, five grams of edible 23-carat gold, an outrageously expensive truffle, and a freaking diamond tennis bracelet (not edible) included. A year's worth of college tuition or a bracelet and some ice cream? You decide.

3. The Greatest Cake Ever Created

Who cares about those fancy cakes with gold dust? I mean, does gold even taste good anyway? Here we have the greatest dessert ever created. Behold the unicorn rainbow fart cake. This thing of beauty was created by Natalie Sideserf for her Austin, Texas-based company Sideserf Cake Studio. She is an ARTISTE! Check out the gallery of her other work, she's one talented woman. As far as this masterpiece, I'm no unicorn expert, but if unicorns do fart, I'm sure they fart rainbows. I mean, duh. Not sure how much this cake costs, but whatever it is, it's worth it.
