Comparing 'HIMYD' Stars Meg Ryan, Greta Gerwig

by Alicia Lutes

So, Meg Ryan is set to be the voice of an older Greta Gerwig on CBS' sure-to-be-sent-to-series, How I Met Your Dad . And while that might have some folks scratching their heads, we're sort of blown away by the similarities. Having read the pilot — or, at least the one that was out there before Gerwig was cast and likely got her own talented hands on it — the story set-up is identical to that of the spin-off show's birthparent, How I Met Your Mother , and we dare say that the duo are a better match than Josh Radnor and Bob Saget themselves.

And not just because of the career choice similarities. Sure, both women have managed to come out on top on the charmingly naïve and at-times bumblingly awkward front (Gerwig in indies, Ryan in Nora Ephron films), but there's a whole lot more to it than blonde hair and quirky non-sequiturs. They've also got nearly identical vocal rhythms. In the pilot of How I Met Your Dad, some of the women's best moments from their careers will come in handy — be it ruminating, proselytizing, monologuing, or sheltering feelings, these two actresses carry the same cadence, tone, and tenor when they're spastically sprawled about the screen. And we've got just the clips to prove it.
