Shooter Attacks FedEx Facility In Georgia

At least one person was killed and six people injured Tuesday morning following a workplace shooting at a FedEx facility in Georgia. The suspected shooter died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound, according to police. He hasn't yet been identified. Authorities placed the facility on lockdown after being alerted of the incident around 5:54 a.m., during which the gunman opened fire on people at the Kennesaw warehouse near Cobb County Airport.

More than 50 emergency vehicles rushed to the scene, along with hundreds of police officers. Victims were taken to WellStar Kennestone Hospital, with one in critical condition and undergoing surgery.

Witnesses say the gunman worked as a baggage handler for Fedex. His body was found in a loading bay, according to police, and he was armed with pistols and a shotgun. Upon officials' arrival, FedEx employees on their way to work were turned away and those already in the facility were held at the property. Investigators swept the area for secondary devices and police used search dogs to scour the warehouse, Cobb County Police Officer Mike Bowman told WXIA-TV.

In a statement, spokesperson Scott Fiedler said FedEx is cooperating with law enforcement.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with those affected, and with their families and friends. We are grateful for the assistance of law enforcement. The situation is now stabilized and we are focused on the needs of our team members and cooperating with the law enforcement investigation of this tragedy," the statement reads.
