Her New Song Brings Back The Glory Days Of Pop

by Mallory Schlossberg

J. Lo fans! The new Jennifer Lopez song "First Love" has been released online, and you can listen to it right over here. The track was produced by Max Martin, who happens to be the mastermind behind my tween anthem "...Baby One More Time," among many others. As one would expect with a song doctored up by Martin, there are thumping beats in "First Love," a catchy chorus, and obvious lyrics. In other words, POP MUSIC AT ITS FINEST.

Lopez sings, "I wish you were my first love, 'cause if you were first there wouldn't have been a second, third or fourth love." Aww! She loves this dude, and she also has great counting skills. But seriously, this is a jam you will be hearing at your spin class in the weeks to come — at least, I hope that I will be hearing it. YES, I confess: I have an unyielding guilty pleasure for pop music that sounds like it came from the early 2000s, or more specifically, any Top 40 hit released between 1998 and 2003, which was essentially, Max Martin's era. This is the mastermind responsible for Britney Spears' "Stronger," the Backstreet Boys' "Quit Playin' Games (With My Heart)," and *NSYNC's "Tearin' Up My Heart" — basically, MY CHILDHOOD. Martin has also touched pop music fans of this era with Katy Perry's "Teenage Dream" and Taylor Swift's "We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together."

The track is from her as-yet-untitled album, but if this track is any indication, it will likely be pretty good. J. Lo, consider this your Renaissance!

Enjoy the song!
