You'll Never Photobomb the Same Way Again

The photobomb, like the selfie, is one of those unique cultural words that is a little hard to explain to someone who doesn't already know what it is. More accurately, the photobomb is hard to explain the joy of. Jumping into people's photographs for no apparent reason? Where's the fun in that? As if to answer that very question, Jimmy Fallon and Cameron Diaz teamed up to photobomb tourists in a Tonight Show segment that brought the fine art of photobombing back with a vengeance.

In the segment, titled "Celebrity Photobomb", Fallon revealed that they had gone to Top of the Rock in New York City last week and convinced strangers that they were posing for a photo that would go on NBC's Top of the Rock Website. While the tourists were getting their picture taken, Fallon and Diaz snuck up behind them. Most people didn't notice, but two groups screamed when they recognized who was standing near them. One woman even gave Fallon an immediate hug.

"It was so fun," said Fallon in his introduction to the segment and he and Diaz certainly looked like they were having fun. Cameron Diaz recently confessed that she's been with a woman in the most casual and refreshing way possible, already placing her in our good books, but the segment took my newfound affection for her to a whole new level. Fallon and Diaz were both unable to stop giggling as they hid to discuss the different ways in which they could photobomb the next group to come along. After all, it would be boring if they just kept doing the same thing over and over.

At first, a photobomb was as simple as just leaning into someone's picture when they didn't know that you were behind them. Tina Fey put this method to great affect during the 2012 Golden Globes when the camera was on Amy Poehler.

However, as with any great fad, the more people got into it, the more the activity began to grow and change. Suddenly, people were making faces. Take Jennifer Lawrence's infamous photobomb of Taylor Swift at the 2014 Golden Globes. (The Golden Globes just seem to be a breeding ground for this type of thing.)

Now, Fallon and Diaz are challenging us all to take our photobombing skills a lot further. They ate a hoagie in one picture.

They practiced kung-fu in another picture.

They climbed out of the NBC statue in a third picture.

If you thought your photobomb game was strong, now you know it's not as strong as Diaz and Fallon's. The bar has been set, America. You'll never photobomb the same way again.
