You're Gonna Cry Tears of Joy

by Emma Goddard

You may have thought there was nothing better than BFFs and singing duo Ed Sheeran and Taylor Swift, but there is, and it’s Sheeran and Hilary Duff. Yes, you heard me. Soon, Hilary Duff will be recording an Ed Sheeran-penned song for her upcoming album, and I’m sure it will be extremely magical. This is what dreams are made of.

Talking to MTV News at the 2014 iHeartRadio Music Awards about her music — which has been sorely missed — Duff mentioned how she’s working with various songwriters and producers and just happened to let it slip that she’s “cutting an Ed Sheeran song next week.” I’m not sure if she meant to mention that news, but it’s still fabulous either way.

“It feels good to be in the studio,” Duff told MTV News. “It feels good to be talking about my last few years — the high points and the low points. I really just want to be honest and be an open book for my fans to know where I’ve been and what I’ve been doing, how I feel and all that good stuff.”

Later, she also noted how her single should be out soon, and that adoring fans can expect an album by the fall. Duff has said that her upcoming album will give off an “earthy, indie-pop vibe,” which sounds quite different from the early 2000s, Laguna Beach theme song-singing Duff we’re so used to. However, whether Duff wanted to pursue a rap career or even try her hand at punk rock music, I would still listen to her because she is Hilary freakin’ Duff and can do whatever she wants.

The singer-actress will also be working with the likes of Lindy Robbins and Toby Gad, as well as Savan Kotecha who wrote songs for artists like One Direction and Ariana Grande. So basically we can feel comforted knowing that Duff’s music career is in the right hands.
