Lisa Kudrow Will Have Her 'Comeback' at HBO

by Alicia Lutes

Oh snap! After weeks of speculation, "B level" TV star Valerie Cherish will return to her HBO stomping grounds for another season of The Comeback . That's right, America: Lisa Kudrow will be back on our television screens once more, so tell all your friends. Because it sounds like everyone involved is very, very excited.

"The Comeback holds a special place in the hearts of its many fans, including many of us here at HBO," explained Michael Lombardo, president of HBO Programming via press release. "I can't wait to find out what Valerie's been up to since we last met."

Echoing that sentiment was the series' creator (whom you might also know from Sex and The City and 2 Broke Girls), Michael Patrick King. "I'm so excited to be working with Valerie Cherish again. It's great to be able to continue her story and I'm thrilled to have The Comeback come back to HBO, where it all started."

"It was almost too fun play Valerie Cherish the first time around. I look forward to revisiting this resilient and ironically self-unaware character," explained the series' star, Lisa Kudrow.

For those of you uninitiated into the world of Valerie Cherish, allow us to expound. You see our girl was considered a pioneer of reality television in her time, was a pioneer of reality television. After fading from the cultural zeitgeist, Cherish's desperation for fame resulted in a new reality show to film her as she appeared on a new sitcom with truly disastrous results.

As for its new season? Well, the 6-episode limited run will show us just how much Valerie thinks she has it figured out this time when — surprise, surprise — in fact she doesn't. What made The Comeback so great was the ease with which it explored the duality of existence, particularly when embroiled in the nuttery that is television. This allowed for discussions on wealth, age, and gender in society and Hollywood, and the madness that goes along with throwing yourself headfirst into it. Naturally, we're quite excited.
