She's Coming to a TV Near You

by Erin Mayer

Is there anything better than a new wrap dress in your closet? How about DVF on your television screen? You may not have the money to drop on a body-hugging jersey number, but that second wish will come true real soon. Like, late 2014 soon. Diane von Furstenberg has partnered with E! for a new reality series and I, for one, am pumped! Fashion television has gotten so dull ever since Project Runway left Bravo and we all stopped watching. I'm counting on DVF to make my DVR stylish once again.

The DVF Project (that's a working title) will televise the quest to find the brand's first-ever "Global Brand Ambassador." According to The Hollywood Reporter:

Cameras will follow a group of hopefuls as they navigate their way through New York and the fashion-world waters, over the course of the weeks-long job interview. Contestants will also be mentored by the celebrated designer throughout the process, a noted champion for women looking to turn their dreams into reality.

There is no designer I'd rather see as a reality TV personality than DVF. She's headstrong, warm yet decidedly saucy, and a complete fashion genius. She'll be like a female Tim Gunn — a striking presence who can class up a reality competition series just by stepping in front of the camera. DVF is the exact opposite of trashy, so anything that bares her name will reflect that.

A press release, excerpted by Vanity Fair, gives more insight into the nature of the competition.

The girls will be involved in every major event that takes place at the fashion brand culminating in Fashion Week. They will also work within the four major DVF divisions—merchandising, P.R., marketing, and design. Executing tasks with integrity, grace, and poise while in a high energy, pressure-filled environment may be too much for some to take.

With this being the 40th anniversary year of the wrap dress, DVF has been getting a ton of attention lately, so the time is ripe for a move to television. When The DVF Project airs, you can bet I'll be watching, and really wishing I had made the competition cut. After all, what job could possibly be better than "Global Brand Ambassador" for Diane von Furstenberg?
