Elin Nordegren Takes Back Her Power

by Kaitlin Reilly

You may know Elin Nordegren as Tiger Woods' ex-wife, but that's not all this former model is — she's also a recent college graduate. Nordegren just graduated from Rollins College in Winter Park, Fla. after working on her degree for nearly nine years. Though she admits that nine years is a "pretty long time" to work on a degree, the mother of two definitely didn't slack. She graduated with a 3.96 GPA and received the 2014 Outstanding Graduating Senior award, which earned her the opportunity to make a speech at the Rollins College commencement ceremony. In the commencement speech Nordegren talked about how the media framed her as a woman of little words — which, clearly was inaccurate. In fact, Nordegren is finally speaking out about the painful divorce from her golfer husband. She stated:

When I entered my student advisor office in the fall of 2005, I was 25 years old, I had just recently moved to America, I was married without children... Today, nine years later, I’m a proud American, and I have two beautiful children—but I’m no longer married... It was right after I had taken communications and the media that I was unexpectedly thrust into the media limelight...I probably should have taken more notes in that class!

By speaking out on the situation, Nordegren is taking some power back, and like all new graduates, she's ready to move on to bigger and better things.
