Julianne Moore Talks 'Mockingjay's Political Motif

There's something strangely comforting about hearing from someone involved in an adaptation that they completely get the spirit of the story they're telling. That's what I'm getting from Julianne Moore talking about Mockingjay 's politics. It kind of makes us want to wrap her in a bear hug.

"You know in a larger scope it's really about what is our political system, how did we arrive at it, who are we within it," she said in a new video featuring Moore discussing the series as a whole and the new additions to come in Mockingjay, Part 1. Moore is playing District 13's President Coin, a key figure in the political set-up of the ext two films.

Hope is about possibility, hope is about change, and it's about having some personal power. So I think when anyone in Mockingjay or anywhere in The Hunger Games are hopeless that means that they don't feel they can affect change.

Bam! Mockingjay is the darkest of the three Hunger Games books, so it's nice to see that the first bit of promotional materials surrounding it are focusing so heavily around the politics that make it so dark. President Snow and Katniss have a hell of journey to go on, and this seems about the place to start.
