Even She Couldn't Recreate "The Rachel"

by Erin Mayer

If you've never been able to perfect "The Rachel," you're officially off the hook! Jennifer Aniston herself couldn't maintain "The Rachel" without professional help and if the Friends star who originated the look can't keep it up, no one should expect us amateurs to do so.

In an interview with ABC News, the actress opened up about her haircare routine. She uses Living Proof products, for which she is the spokesperson, and washes her hair every three days (joining Connie Britton in the Celebs Who Don't Wash Their Hair That Much Club).

"I don’t get a lot of product build-up with Living Proof and my hair doesn’t get dirty straight away," she said. "I wash my hair with No Frizz Shampoo and Conditioner. And with PHD Styling Treatment I can air-dry and style my hair in 10 minutes, when it used to take 25 minutes."

But what about "The Rachel"?! Aniston's, um, unique sense of style as Rachel Green would never have worked without the famous hairstyle tying things together. Apparently, Aniston was never able to achieve the look on her own.

"The 'Rachel' was one of the hardest hairstyles to maintain. Me and the blow dryer and the hairbrush weren’t meant for each other," Aniston admitted. "It really was a ‘hairdo’. When Chris [McMillian] would style it my hair would be great, it would look gorgeous. But then when I was left to my own devices, it wouldn’t look the same!"

In fact, Aniston actually loathes "The Rachel." In 2011 she described the 'do as "the ugliest haircut I've ever seen" and in 2013 she told a radio show that she'd rather shave her head once than sport a "Rachel" for the rest of her days. Fair enough... variety is the spice of life, after all.

Despite her hatred of the famed haircut he created, Aniston still has hair appointments with Chris McMillian on a regular basis. I can't say I've ever really longed for "The Rachel" (plus, my curls would make that particular look impossible), but "ugliest haircut ever" seems harsh. Has Aniston not seen Skrillex hair?
